Residents of Patan Upset Over Slow Renovation of Railway Station

Residents of Patan are expressing their frustration over the slow pace of renovation work at the Patan Railway Station. Local citizens have urged their MP, Bharat Singh Dabi, to take action and speed up the ongoing renovation. The station has become increasingly important as more long-distance trains now stop here, connecting Patan to major cities like Rajasthan and Mumbai. However, the current state of the station is causing issues for passengers.

One major complaint is the short stopping time for many important trains. Passengers, especially senior citizens, find it difficult to board and disembark from trains that only stop for two minutes. For example, a train from Bhavnagar to Haridwar arrives at Patan Station late at night and leaves very early in the morning, giving passengers little time to get on or off.

Recently, a situation arose when about 60 passengers alighted from a train at Patan. Due to the two-minute stop, some elderly passengers struggled to get off in time. In one instance, a passenger pulled the emergency chain to stop the train, and police had to take legal action against them.

The facilities at the station are also lacking. Passengers arriving on Platform 2 face several challenges. The only way to access Platform 1 is via a steep staircase, which is difficult to navigate, especially for those carrying luggage. There are no proper pathways leading out of the station, and transportation options like rickshaws are not readily available.

The renovation work has been criticized for its slow progress. Even basic amenities such as waiting areas and shelters from the rain or sun are not yet provided. Many hope that MP Dabi will take their concerns seriously and work to improve the railway facilities in Patan.

As Patan’s population grows and tourism increases due to attractions like Rani ki Vav, timely updates to the railway station are essential. The local community is eager for improvements to enhance the travel experience for all passengers. They want a safe and convenient environment at the railway station, reflecting the true potential of Patan as a growing urban centre.
