Bodeli is facing safety issues due to a damaged section of the Narmada Main Canal barrier near Sagadara village. Drivers are worried about accidents occurring at night. Local residents are calling for immediate repairs to the barrier to prevent potential mishaps.
The problem is not new. Many bridges in the Bodeli area have old or damaged barriers. The service road along the Narmada Canal, which connects several villages to Vaghodia, shows signs of neglect. The barrier on the bridge linking Sagadara and Achali villages has been broken for several days. In a bid to ensure safety, locals have placed wooden blocks around the damaged area.
The risk of accidents increases during the night due to poor visibility. Farmers from Achali and Sagadara frequently travel to other regions, leading to heavy traffic in the area. There is growing concern that without prompt action, a serious accident may occur.
Residents are advocating for the construction of high barricades along the banks of the Narmada Canal. The area is expanding, and the canal is becoming more central to Bodeli. Many people, including children and young adults, walk near the canal, putting them at risk.
Tragic events have already occurred in the past, with people slipping into the canal and drowning. The slippery surface of the canal lining makes it easy for anyone to lose their footing. Community members are increasingly alarmed by the dangers posed by the canal, especially during festivals when families often visit.
To address these concerns, locals are urging authorities to construct sturdy iron barricades on both sides of the nearby bridge, extending up to one kilometre. This is intended to safeguard the community from the deep waters of the canal.
Residents want their voices heard. They are prepared to take their demands to higher authorities to ensure that safety measures are implemented swiftly. The Narmada Main Canal poses a significant risk, and action is needed to protect the people of Bodeli and its surrounding areas.
