In Gujarat, a significant initiative called the School Enrollment Festival will take place from June 26 to June 28, 2025. This event focuses on enrolling children into schools and promoting girls’ education. Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel highlighted this event during a recent meeting in Gandhinagar with over 400 senior officials, including IAS, IPS, and IFS officers. The festival aims to achieve 100% enrollment for eligible children and encourage girls’ education. This year’s theme is ‘Let’s Make the School Enrollment Festival a Social Festival.’
The festival has been running for 22 years, initiated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his tenure as Chief Minister. The event has seen many positive changes in the education sector, and it continues to evolve. More than 15,000 schools across the state will participate, including 1,529 government secondary schools, 5,134 grant-in-aid secondary schools, and 31,824 government primary schools.
The Education Department plans to enroll approximately 25.75 lakh students during this festival. This includes 8.75 lakh children eligible for preschool, 10.50 lakh students moving from 8th to 9th grade, and 6.50 lakh students advancing from 10th to 11th grade. Chief Minister Patel urged everyone to create an environment where more children can enroll in government schools, emphasizing the importance of education for girls from grades 9 to 12.
Additionally, the government is introducing schemes such as ‘Namo Lakshmi’ and ‘Namo Saraswati’ to support girls’ education and encourage interest in science among children. Education Minister Dr. Kuberbhai Dindor announced that this year’s focus would also include tracking students at risk of dropping out using an AI-based tracking system.
The festival is not just an educational initiative; it is a celebration that involves the entire community. Chief Secretary Pankaj Joshi noted that the event would connect various departments and foster community support for primary education. Feedback and social audits will be conducted during school visits to enhance the festival’s effectiveness.
The School Enrollment Festival is a vital step towards improving education in Gujarat. It aims to ensure every child has access to quality education and promotes gender equality in learning. With community involvement and government support, this initiative hopes to make a lasting impact on the future of education in the state.
