Security Forces Set for Jagannath Rath Yatra in Ahmedabad

This year, the Jagannath Rath Yatra will see 23,884 security personnel deployed to ensure a safe and peaceful event in Ahmedabad. Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel reviewed security arrangements at a high-level meeting in Gandhinagar. He emphasized the importance of maintaining order during the 148th edition of this traditional festival, which takes place annually on the second day of the month of Ashadha in the Gujarati calendar.

The meeting included key officials such as Home Minister Harsh Sanghavi, Director General of Police Vikas Sahay, Ahmedabad Police Commissioner G.S. Malik, and Municipal Commissioner Banchhanidhi Pani. They discussed the detailed security measures that the police have prepared for the 16-kilometre route of the Rath Yatra. This year marks the first time that Artificial Intelligence (AI) will be used for crowd and fire alerts to manage the large gathering effectively.

The use of AI will help manage crowds and prevent unwanted incidents. If a large number of people gather at any point along the route, the police can respond swiftly to maintain order. Additionally, fire alerts will enable timely responses from fire brigades and police in case of any fire incidents.

The police commissioner highlighted that more than 23,884 security personnel will be on duty, ranging from IG level to lower-ranking officers, including units from the G.E.N., Chetak Commandos, and Rapid Action Force.

In addition to the regular police presence, around 4,500 personnel will be involved in securing the floats, trucks, and bhajan mandalis that participate in the Yatra. To ensure smooth traffic management, over 1,000 traffic officers will be deployed to avoid congestion during the event. There are also plans for 23 cranes to be available along the route.

Monitoring will be enhanced with 227 cameras, 41 drones, and 2,872 body-worn cameras for live coverage of the event. Furthermore, 240 vantage points and 25 watch towers will be established, allowing police control rooms to keep a close eye on proceedings along the entire route.

To prevent people from leaning against old and dilapidated buildings along the route, warning signs and temporary barricades will be placed. The police and municipal authorities have taken necessary precautions to ensure the safety of the public.

Seventeen help centres and 44 public address systems will be set up along the route to assist attendees during the Yatra. The police have also conducted meetings with peace committees, local groups, and religious leaders to promote harmony and cooperation among the community.

Various community events have been organized to foster unity, including cricket matches, volleyball tournaments, and blood donation camps. Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel has sought information from the state police regarding the safety measures in place across the state where Rath Yatras will occur.

The police are committed to ensuring that the festival takes place in a peaceful environment, showcasing the dedication of the Ahmedabad police force. The Rath Yatra is not only a religious event but also a celebration of community spirit and unity, where people come together to honour their faith and traditions. As the Yatra approaches, the excitement among devotees and participants is palpable, with many eager to partake in the festivities.
