Seven Years in Prison for Attempting to Kill Minor Girl

A 17-year-old girl from the Kanbha area of Ahmedabad faced a terrifying experience when a young man attempted to kill her after she refused his demands. The rural POCSO court, presided over by Judge B.G. Awasthi, sentenced the accused, Hiral Jagdishbhai Vaghela, to seven years in prison. The court noted the evidence presented during the trial, including the victim’s testimony, which showed that the case was clearly proven. The court stated that such offenders should not be shown mercy, especially when they attempt to kill a minor. The horrific incident occurred on December 11, 2022. The victim was home alone when Vaghela entered her house. He began to harass her and made inappropriate demands. When the girl refused to comply, Vaghela became angry and threatened to kill her. Despite his threats, the girl bravely fought back, using a nearby knife to stab him twice, causing him to bleed. Taking advantage of the situation, Vaghela fled the scene. The local Kanbha police registered a complaint and arrested him the next day. The prosecution lawyer, Bharat Singh C. Rathod, presented substantial evidence, arguing that this was a serious crime and that Vaghela’s actions warranted a severe punishment. The testimonies from the victim and other witnesses confirmed the identity of the attacker. The court took into account the need to set an example in society and ensure that such offenders fear the law. In contrast, the defense sought a lesser sentence for Vaghela. After considering arguments from both sides, the court imposed the seven-year sentence, sending Vaghela to jail. This case highlights the ongoing issue of violence against minors and the importance of strict penalties to deter such behavior. The public and legal authorities hope that this ruling will send a strong message that society will not tolerate such crimes against children. It is a reminder of the ongoing struggle to protect vulnerable individuals from violence and abuse. The victim’s bravery in fighting back is commendable, and her story serves as an inspiration for others facing similar threats. As the community continues to grapple with issues of safety and justice, this case marks a crucial moment in the fight against violence towards minors in Gujarat.
