Gujarat is experiencing heavy rainfall that has caused significant disruption in several areas. The worst-hit regions are Vadgam, where 8.6 inches of rain fell, and Palanpur, with 6.1 inches recorded. The rain has been particularly intense, leading to flooding in both urban and rural locations.
In Vadgam, the situation is critical. In just five hours, 9 inches of rain poured down, flooding the Vadgam market yard. The heavy downpour has caused waterlogging in many streets and fields. The Rani Tuk waterfall has started flowing for the first time this season, indicating the intensity of the rainfall. Additionally, the Mahadev and Mahakali temples in the area are also affected, with water entering the premises.
Nearby, Dantiwada is also facing heavy rain. The downpour has led to water accumulating in fields, threatening the crops that have been sown. Farmers are worried about the damage this could cause to their livelihoods. Roads have been submerged, with reports of up to 15 feet of water in some areas, making travel difficult. Residents are in distress as rainwater is entering homes, leading to significant losses. Local authorities are in talks with residents to manage the drainage of rainwater.
Due to these adverse weather conditions, schools in Banaskantha district will remain closed. The district collector announced that all primary schools in Palanpur, Dantiwada, Vadgam, Dhanera, and Disa will be shut down on July 3, 2025, to ensure the safety of students and staff.
This rainfall is part of a larger pattern affecting central Gujarat, Saurashtra, Kutch, and southern Gujarat. Reports indicate that many areas received over an inch of rain, with the cities of Nadiad and Umargam experiencing particularly heavy showers. The rainfall has disrupted daily life, affecting transportation and local businesses.
In Nadiad, the downpour led to the flooding of four drainage systems, severely impacting traffic in the eastern and western regions. Other cities like Mahuva and Umargam are also struggling with similar conditions. The rainfall has also been reported in regions like Surendranagar, Valsad, and Ahmedabad, with varying intensities.
Residents are advised to stay indoors where possible and to follow local weather updates. Authorities are working to mitigate the impact of the rainfall and provide assistance to those affected. The situation is being monitored closely, and further updates will be provided as the weather develops.
