Shaktisinh Gohil has resigned from his position as the Gujarat Congress President. His resignation comes after the results of the by-elections for the Kadi and Visavadar constituencies were announced. The Congress party faced a significant defeat in these elections, prompting Gohil to step down from his role. Until a new president is appointed, Shailesh Parmar, the MLA from Dani Limda, will take over the responsibilities.
Gohil announced his resignation shortly after the by-election results were released. He stated that despite not being in power for 30 years, Congress workers fought with determination. He accepted responsibility for the disappointing results and has sent his resignation to the national president of the party.
Regarding the appointments of city and district presidents, Gohil mentioned that he had listened to all party workers at the district level. The All India Congress Committee (AICC) has considered all good candidates before finalising the names of the district presidents. He expressed that the workers of Gujarat have received new strength and enthusiasm. He congratulated both former and newly appointed district presidents, stating that the new leaders would be more aligned with the party than with personal interests.
In his resignation statement, Gohil said, “I accept my responsibility and have submitted my resignation. Congress has a tradition of moral responsibility. I will always work as a soldier of Congress. The party creates leaders from its workers, and I will continue to work as a worker.” He added that it would have felt better if they had won at least one seat out of the two contested.
After the by-elections, Gohil shared on social media, expressing pride in being a disciplined soldier of India’s oldest and best political party. He acknowledged the support he received from Congress leaders, including Mallikarjun Kharge, Rahul Gandhi, Venugopal, and Mukul Wasnik. He emphasized the guidance provided by Rajiv Gandhi and Sonia Gandhi, which he sees as his greatest blessing.
The results of the by-elections showed a clear defeat for Congress. In Visavadar, AAP candidate Gopal Italiya won with 17,554 votes, while BJP candidate Rajendra Chavda secured 39,452 votes in Kadi, marking a significant margin of victory for the ruling party.
Gohil’s resignation reflects the ongoing challenges faced by the Congress party in Gujarat. The party has struggled to regain its footing in a state where it has not been in power for decades. His commitment to the party remains strong, as he vows to continue working as a dedicated member of Congress.
This resignation may lead to changes in the party’s strategy as they prepare for future elections. The new leadership will have to address the issues that led to the recent electoral losses and work on rebuilding the party’s image in Gujarat. Gohil’s resignation highlights the internal dynamics of the Congress party and the expectations placed on its leaders to deliver results.
As the party looks for a new president, many will be watching closely to see how they will navigate the political landscape in Gujarat. The upcoming months will be crucial for Congress as they aim to regain support from voters and strengthen their position in the state.
