In a surprising turn of events, two employees of the Gujarat power company have been caught drinking alcohol while on duty. This incident has raised serious concerns about the behaviour of staff at the company. The two junior assistants, identified as Subhash Damor and Praveen Katara, were found drinking in the office in Jhagadia, Bharuch district.
The situation unfolded last Sunday evening when Dhaval Rajubhai Shah, a local lawyer, faced a power outage at his home on Tower Road. Frustrated, he called the power company’s helpline over 30 times but received no response. This lack of assistance prompted him to visit the power office directly.
Upon reaching the office, Dhaval discovered that the responsible lineman was absent. However, he encountered the two junior assistants who were apparently enjoying a drinking session at the office table. This shocking sight left Dhaval astonished. He quickly recorded a video of the scene and shared it on social media, which quickly went viral.
Witnesses reported that the employees were so intoxicated that they could not respond appropriately to customer inquiries. In fact, they rudely informed Dhaval that answering calls was not part of their duty, which further shocked him and others present.
The situation escalated when Dhaval, along with others, contacted the deputy engineer of the power company to report the behaviour of the employees. In a separate video, Praveen Katara was heard making inappropriate remarks while under the influence.
Following the incident, the power company has taken disciplinary action against the two employees. They have received show-cause notices, and further measures are being planned. The company has confirmed that such behaviour is unacceptable and will not be tolerated. This incident has raised questions about employee conduct and the management of the power company.
The power company, Gujarat Urja Vikas Nigam Limited (GUVNL), is responsible for providing electricity across the region and is expected to maintain high standards of professionalism. This incident has sparked discussions about the need for stricter regulations and better oversight of employees to prevent such occurrences in the future.
As the investigation continues, the local community is left wondering how such behaviour could happen in a place meant to serve the public. Many are calling for accountability and stronger measures to ensure that employees represent the company with dignity and respect. The power company has assured customers that they are taking this matter seriously and will act accordingly to restore trust in their services.
