In Nikol, a village near Ahmedabad, an incident occurred when a team from the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) went to remove roadside obstructions. Vendors were selling mangoes on the road near Kothia Hospital, causing traffic jams. When the AMC staff arrived to clear the area, a group of over ten people confronted them. During this confrontation, stones were thrown at the AMC employees and their vehicle, resulting in injuries to five staff members.
The AMC team, led by Sub-Inspector Parthbhai Vala from the estate department, was conducting operations to remove the mango crates that were blocking the road. This action took place on the afternoon of May 17. As they reached Kothia Hospital in the evening, they found vendors selling mangoes, which was causing a traffic issue. The AMC team began to load the crates into their vehicle to clear the road.
Suddenly, one of the individuals selling mangoes started shouting at the AMC workers and attempted to remove the crates from their vehicle. The situation escalated quickly, and more than ten people gathered, attacking the AMC staff and their vehicle with stones.
The AMC employees had to retreat from the scene and inform the police about the incident. When the police arrived, the attackers had already fled. The five injured AMC employees were taken for medical treatment due to minor injuries.
Following the incident, Sub-Inspector Parthbhai filed a complaint at the Nikol police station against more than ten individuals involved in the attack. The police have arrested over five suspects and are continuing to search for others who escaped.
This incident highlights the challenges faced by municipal authorities while trying to maintain order and safety on the roads. The AMC’s efforts to ensure public safety are often met with resistance from those who obstruct traffic and create hazards. The police have urged the public to cooperate with municipal teams to avoid such conflicts in the future.
As the investigation continues, the community is reminded of the importance of following regulations and maintaining a safe environment for all road users. The AMC aims to work closely with the police to prevent similar incidents from occurring again and to ensure that vendors comply with local laws while selling their goods.
Public safety and order must remain a priority, and both the AMC and local authorities will continue to take necessary actions to uphold these standards.
