In Vastral, a new storm water drainage network is set to be built to manage rainwater more effectively. The project will cover around 8 kilometers and cost approximately ₹9.7 crore. This initiative aims to quickly remove rainwater, especially during the monsoon season.
Dilip Bhai Bagaria, the chairman of the Municipal Water Supply Committee, stated that various locations in Vastral Ward will have storm water drains installed. The project includes the existing Khariyakat Canal and several important roads, such as TP 105, 106, 113, and 114.
The new drainage network will help to manage rainwater in areas prone to flooding. This includes sections of the SP Ring Road and the vicinity of Shardaba School in the Ramol-Hathijan area. An additional plan includes laying down 3,000 meters of pipeline to ensure efficient rainwater drainage.
The project is designed to address flooding issues in Vastral Ward, particularly on the lower-lying areas and new developments along RTO Road. The storm water lines will also be laid in residential societies to ensure that rainwater is effectively managed and does not cause health issues for local residents.
Moreover, older drainage lines in nearby areas like Sardar Nagar, Naroda, and Saijpur will be upgraded. These areas are densely populated with mixed-use developments that have long suffered from inadequate drainage. The goal is to replace the old lines while minimizing disruption to residents and business operators.
Additionally, the municipality plans to utilise CCTV technology to monitor and maintain the drainage systems. This will help prevent blockages and ensure that the drainage works efficiently, reducing the risk of sewage entering drinking water supplies.
The new drainage system is expected to significantly improve the health and sanitation conditions for residents in Vastral and the surrounding areas. By implementing these changes, the local government aims to reduce complaints about flooding and sewage overflow, ensuring a better quality of life for the community.
This initiative is part of a larger effort to modernise infrastructure and enhance the urban landscape in Ahmedabad. Residents are hopeful that these improvements will bring lasting change and relief from seasonal flooding problems.
