Godhra has seen rising concerns among local residents about the reckless driving of trucks and dumpers on the road from Kankarpur to Chhakadiya. Many truck drivers have been using this route to avoid toll taxes, leading to accidents and a growing fear among the people living in the area. In response to these complaints, officials from the Regional Transport Office (RTO) conducted checks on the trucks using this route. The checks were led by RTO officer B.A. Chavda.
During the operation, officials stopped trucks to check for necessary documents related to road safety. These documents included the registration certificate (RC), insurance, driving license, tax payments, and Pollution Under Control (PUC) certificates. A total of 13 trucks were inspected, and a fine of ₹1,07,500 was imposed for various violations. Additionally, one truck was detained for not paying taxes, amounting to ₹17,000. This brought the total fines to ₹1,24,500.
Local residents welcomed this action, expressing hope that such checks would continue in the future. They feel that regular inspections could help control reckless driving and prevent accidents. The local community believes that these measures will enhance road safety, ensuring that no innocent lives are lost due to reckless driving.
The Kankarpur area is a significant village in the Panchmahal district of Gujarat. The main occupations here include agriculture and animal husbandry. Farmers primarily grow crops like maize, bajra, and vegetables. The village has schools, banks, and health facilities, making it a vital part of the region.
However, the recent increase in heavy vehicles on the Kankarpur to Chhakadiya road has been alarming. Many truck drivers have been reported to be driving recklessly, leading to frequent accidents. The locals have urged the RTO and police to take strict action against these drivers. The rising toll rates on the Godhra-Ahmedabad highway have resulted in more trucks using the Kankarpur route to save money, increasing the risk of accidents.
Villagers often visit Kankarpur for daily necessities, but the reckless driving of trucks has put their lives at risk. Residents have expressed their anger and concern over the situation. They are calling for immediate action to control the movement of heavy vehicles on this road and ensure safety for all road users.
The situation has prompted local residents to petition officials, from the collector to the transport department, urging them to take necessary measures against reckless truck drivers. They want assurances that their safety will be prioritized as the number of heavy vehicles on their roads continues to rise.
In summary, the local community is hopeful that with ongoing efforts from the RTO and police, they can see improved safety on their roads. The recent checks are a step in the right direction, and residents are eager to see more regular inspections to keep reckless driving at bay. They believe that these actions will ultimately lead to safer roads and a better quality of life in Kankarpur.
