Online fraud is becoming a major concern in today’s digital age. Many people fall victim to scams that can lead to significant financial losses. Recently, a student in Deesa, Banaskantha, lost nearly 10 lakhs in an online scam.
The incident began when the student saw an advertisement for a gaming machine at a price much lower than usual. Lured by the offer, the student transferred a total of 9.97 lakhs to the scammers over a period of one month. The fraudsters, who are also students from Rajasthan, contacted the victim, claiming they could provide a PlayStation 5 gaming machine at an attractive price.
These scammers used a YouTube link to promote their scheme. They provided their contact number through this link, which drew the student in. Once the student expressed interest, the fraudsters gained access to his phone. They obtained the One-Time Password (OTP) and made direct transfers from the student’s account.
The student’s father noticed suspicious activity in his bank account. After investigating, he discovered that his son had fallen prey to a cyber fraud and had lost a large sum of money. Following this revelation, the father filed a complaint with the cyber police.
The police acted quickly. Using technical analysis and human resources, they tracked the fraudsters to Jaipur, Rajasthan. Eventually, they arrested four suspects: Jugal Bhagirath Suthar, Deepak Bhagirath Suthar, Sunil Surendranagar Jat, and Pradeep Machand Jat. All four are students preparing for competitive exams.
It is alarming that these individuals, who are supposed to be studying for their future, resorted to such fraudulent activities out of greed. This incident serves as a stark reminder of the risks associated with online transactions and the importance of vigilance.
