Surat has been hit hard by continuous heavy rainfall since Monday. The city, known as a ‘smart city’, has transformed into a ‘lake city’ due to the floods. The khadi area of Surat is flooded, causing panic among residents. This morning, a young man fell into a khadi and emergency teams are searching for him. Reports indicate that three young men were swept away as the water levels rose suddenly. The incident took place in the Puna-Kumbharia area. Two of the young men were rescued by the fire brigade, but a young man named Arjun, aged 18, is still missing. Rescue efforts are ongoing.

Surat has experienced 13 inches of rain in just 24 hours, causing severe flooding in many parts of the city. The heavy rain has affected areas like Limbayat, Varachha, and Palanpur. People are struggling as water has entered their homes. Many complaints have been made about the drainage system, as residents say that water is not being drained effectively. They blame construction projects that have blocked proper water flow.

The situation is dire in Palanpur, where waterlogging has caused major disruptions. Vehicles cannot pass through areas that are three feet under water. Despite numerous complaints to the authorities, there has been little response. The rains keep coming, making life difficult for the people living in these areas.

Schools in Surat have announced a holiday due to the floods. The Primary Education Committee has declared a holiday for all schools in the morning session. They will assess the situation for the afternoon session later.

This morning, rain fell heavily in Bardoli, with 4.8 inches recorded in just four hours. Other areas also received significant rainfall, with 3.98 inches in Tapi, and 3.54 inches in Songadh. The city is on high alert, and emergency teams are working tirelessly to assist those in need.

As the rain continues, residents are encouraged to stay indoors and avoid unnecessary travel. Authorities are monitoring the situation closely and urging people to remain safe. The community is coming together to support one another during this challenging time. Emergency services are prioritising rescues and helping families affected by the floods.
