Surat has been heavily impacted by flooding after recent rains. Mayor Daksesh Mavani, along with committee chairman Rajan Bhai Patel and other corporators, visited the affected areas. They inspected various locations, including Gita Nagar, Vidhata Township, Mamanagar, and Shantikunj Society, which were flooded due to the overflowing Khadi River.
Following the flood, Surat Municipal Corporation (SMC) has been actively engaged in cleanup and health-related initiatives. Today, over 60 sanitation workers and several health officials, including Assistant Health Officers and Deputy Medical Officers, worked to restore order in the affected regions.
The cleanup involved intensive sanitation efforts. Workers collected solid waste, sprayed insecticides, and conducted fogging to control mosquito populations. Health teams also visited homes for surveillance and distributed chlorine tablets. They provided primary health care to residents in need.
The flooding in Surat has been significant, with heavy rainfall causing the Khadi River to overflow, affecting various localities. Areas like Varachha have seen widespread flooding, with water entering homes and businesses. Reports suggest that approximately 300 families in Modern Township, near the Landmark Textile Market, have been severely affected, struggling with waterlogged conditions for three days.
The municipal authorities have set up pumps along the riverbanks to drain water from low-lying areas. This action aims to relieve the flooded localities and ensure safety for the residents. Additionally, the authorities are relocating people from high-risk areas to safer locations.
Surat has been experiencing continuous rainfall, which has compounded the flooding situation. As the third day of flooding continues, many areas remain submerged. The situation is critical, with ongoing rain making relief efforts more challenging. Residents are facing difficulties in mobility due to water accumulation and barricades set up for safety.
