Surat has recently seen a major crackdown on illegal online gaming and betting activities. The Special Operations Group (SOG) of Surat Police made significant progress by arresting eight suspects involved in these activities. The police discovered that the racket was linked to nearly ₹943 crore in financial transactions.
The main suspect, Nandlal Vithalbhai Gevariya, had been running this illegal operation for the last ten years. He created various websites to lure people into investing in online gaming under the guise of stock market trading. This involved betting on games happening worldwide. During their investigation, police found transactions amounting to over ₹900 crore from different accounts.
The SOG received a tip-off about illegal activities at an office named Sunrise Developers located in the Lajamani Chowk area of the city. Upon raiding the office, police found that it was operating without the necessary permissions from the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI). The office was using software named Castilo 9 and Stock Grow for illegal trading.
The suspects were running a betting business using various sports like cricket, tennis, and football. They promised customers high returns and even facilitated money laundering. The total transactions through online gaming and betting amounted to ₹943 crore.
More than 250 individuals had participated in these illegal activities. The police also discovered ₹4.62 crore in transactions across different bank accounts. This was not the first time Nandlal had faced complaints regarding online gaming and betting.
The arrested individuals included Nandlal (also known as Nando), his brother Vishal, and several others. The police seized 19 mobile phones, four laptops, ₹10 lakh in cash, 31 passbooks, 87 cheque books, and 13 SIM cards, amounting to ₹17.30 lakh in total.
The police are continuing their investigation to uncover more details about this extensive racket. They aim to track down additional suspects and understand the full scale of these illegal operations. This incident highlights the ongoing issues with online gaming and illegal betting in Surat and the need for stricter enforcement of laws to prevent such activities.
Surat Police encourage the public to report any suspicious activities related to online gaming and betting. They are committed to making the city safer and ensuring that such illegal operations do not thrive.
In conclusion, the Surat Police’s successful operation against this online gaming racket is a significant step towards combating illegal activities in the region. The authorities urge citizens to remain vigilant and report any such occurrences to the police.
