Surat police have arrested a group of thieves posing as brides. This unusual case has raised alarms among local residents. The incident began when a young man from Ahmedabad married a woman who turned out to be a con artist. After the wedding, the bride’s mother demanded one lakh rupees, claiming the father was not present. The groom, wanting to please his new family, paid the amount. However, just one day after the wedding, the bride made an excuse to elope with her mother.
The newlywed bride refused to live with her husband and also denied returning the money. Following this, the groom filed a complaint with the police. The police took swift action and arrested the group involved in this scam. Reports show that such cases of deceit are becoming more frequent, especially where young grooms are concerned.
In the past, instances of con brides were rare. However, this trend appears to be growing. In another similar incident, a divorced woman in Surat also fled after robbing her husband. This 39-year-old woman lived in the Yogi Chowk area of Surat. She was raising her 15-year-old son and decided to remarry. After discussing it with her family, her brother’s wife sent a photo of a girl on WhatsApp, asking if the man liked her. This led to discussions about marriage.
The man, whose name is Vipal Dobariya, and Jyotibehn, along with the girl from the photo named Sanjna, met at the man’s house. Jyotibehn introduced Sanjna as her friend’s daughter. She explained that Sanjna’s parents had passed away, which is why she was living with them. Eventually, the divorced man and Sanjna agreed to marry.
During this time, Vipalbhai demanded 1.20 lakh rupees from the divorced man, claiming it was for various expenses. The groom agreed to pay one lakh to Jyotibehn and an additional 20,000 rupees for the wedding. They bought silver chains, gold necklaces, and clothes in preparation for the marriage. The wedding took place on June 13, 2024, at the Shankar Bhagwan temple by the Tapi river, with family members present.
This series of events highlights a growing concern in the region regarding marriage scams. Authorities are urging people to be cautious and conduct thorough background checks before entering into marriage agreements. Local police are also increasing efforts to address such crimes and protect vulnerable individuals from scams. As these incidents come to light, community awareness is crucial to prevent future cases of deception and fraud.
