Suspect Escapes Police Custody During Medical Check-up in Ahmedabad

In a shocking incident, a suspect in a POCSO case managed to escape from police custody at LG Hospital in Ahmedabad. The Amraiwadi police had taken four suspects for a medical check-up before presenting them in a special POCSO court. The escape happened during a chaotic moment when a patient’s relatives gathered in the hospital after the patient passed away.

On May 31, a case was registered against the suspects, including Valji Solanki, Ramila Solanki, Jaysukh Vaghela, and Kesarben Vaghela, at the Amraiwadi police station under the POCSO Act. All four suspects were arrested by the police and taken for a medical check-up at LG Hospital, located in Maninagar.

As the police officers, including Head Constable Arvindbhai and Constable Sanjay, were attending to the suspects, a crowd formed in the ward due to the commotion caused by the death of a patient. Taking advantage of the distraction, one of the suspects, Jaysukh, slipped away from the officers’ view.

While Arvindbhai and another officer were busy with the suspects, Constable Sanjay had gone to park the police vehicle. It was during this time that Jaysukh managed to escape from the hospital’s trauma ward. The police searched the area but could not locate him.

Following the incident, Head Constable Arvindbhai filed a complaint against Jaysukh at the Maninagar police station, raising concerns among senior officials about the escape of a suspect involved in such a serious case. The remaining three suspects were subsequently sent to central jail.

The police are now under scrutiny for their handling of the situation. This incident has raised questions about the security measures in place when transporting high-risk suspects. The police are expected to review their protocols to prevent such occurrences in the future.

The POCSO Act is designed to protect children from sexual offences, and any lapse in the legal process can have serious implications. Authorities are under pressure to capture the escaped suspect quickly and ensure that justice is served for the victims involved in the case.

As investigations continue, community leaders and child protection advocates are calling for stricter measures to safeguard vulnerable individuals during legal proceedings. The incident has highlighted the need for improved training and resources for police officers involved in sensitive cases, particularly those involving children.

The police department is also likely to face criticism if they do not swiftly apprehend the escaped suspect, as public confidence in law enforcement can be severely impacted by such events. The escape raises concerns about the overall handling of cases under the POCSO Act, which is crucial for the safety of children in society.

In the coming days, updates on the investigation and efforts to recapture the suspect are expected. Community members are encouraged to remain vigilant and report any sightings to the authorities. The police have reiterated their commitment to ensuring justice for the victims and capturing the escaped suspect as soon as possible.
