Tata Power is making a significant impact in rural Gujarat through its e-Vidya programme. This initiative, implemented at the Mundra Thermal Power Station, aims to enhance STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) education and digital literacy among students. The programme benefits over 3,000 students across 26 schools in Mundra and Mandvi. It provides hands-on, project-based learning opportunities that empower students to explore real-world scientific principles.
The e-Vidya initiative focuses on students from grades 6 to 10. It encourages curiosity and critical thinking through engaging projects. This approach is transforming the educational landscape in the region. More students are now choosing science subjects, which were traditionally overshadowed by arts and commerce in local communities.
Rural schools often lack access to modern laboratories and educational resources. The e-Vidya programme addresses this gap by introducing interactive and practical science modules directly into classrooms. This ensures that quality education is accessible to all students, regardless of their background.
Teachers, school leaders, and local communities have widely praised the educational transformation brought about by this initiative. To further support digital inclusion, Tata Power has launched a comprehensive digital literacy programme alongside e-Vidya. This programme includes structured training in computer skills, internet safety, and ethical digital behaviour.
The digital literacy programme features 15 STEM and 15 digital literacy modules. It combines technical education with essential digital life skills. Custom-designed booklets, interactive worksheets, and tech-enabled training sessions are used to engage students effectively.
One of the most innovative aspects of the e-Vidya programme is the “AI Around Us” module. This section introduces students to the concepts of artificial intelligence in a simple and relatable manner. It helps them understand how AI is integrated into everyday life. By explaining emerging technologies, the programme inspires students to consider careers in fields like AI, robotics, and data science.
Through this integrated approach, Tata Power’s Mundra Thermal Power Station is not only enhancing traditional classroom education but also bridging the digital divide between rural and urban areas. The combined efforts of the Club Enerji STEM programme and e-Vidya are driving meaningful change, building digital confidence, and igniting a passion for science among students. These initiatives equip students with the skills necessary for success in the future.
Tata Power is committed to sustainable community development. The company focuses on education, health, and digital inclusion through its corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiatives. The e-Vidya programme reflects Tata Power’s vision of empowering rural youth and creating a more inclusive, tech-savvy future. The ongoing efforts are set to leave a lasting social impact in Gujarat, nurturing a generation of informed and skilled individuals ready to tackle the challenges of tomorrow.
