In a recent operation, the Amirgadh Range team successfully apprehended two individuals who were trying to hunt a wild buffalo. This incident took place under the guidance of Deputy Conservator Naresh Rana and Assistant Conservator during a forest patrol in the Banas Kantha district of Gujarat. The team discovered the accused attempting to capture two wild buffaloes in the Balram Ambaji Sanctuary area. The poachers were found with the animals secured in a sack, ready to be transported.
The two individuals, identified as Surajkumar Lakhanbhai Solanki and Ravibhai Arjunbhai Padhiyar, both residing in the Manasarovar Babri area of Palanpur, have been charged under the Wildlife Protection Act of 1972. Specifically, they face accusations under sections 2, 9, 50, 51, and 52, which prohibit the hunting of wild animals. The case has been filed, and the accused were presented before the Amirgadh court, where they were remanded to district jail in Palanpur.
The Wildlife Protection Act stipulates strict penalties for poaching. Those convicted of hunting protected species like buffalo could face a minimum of three years and a maximum of seven years in prison. Additionally, fines can range from 25,000 to 100,000 Indian Rupees.
This incident highlights the ongoing challenges in wildlife conservation in Gujarat.
