Theft in VVIP Security Zone in Ahmedabad

In a shocking incident, thieves broke into ten shops in the Mallinath Complex in Shahibag, Ahmedabad, stealing around ₹20 lakh worth of cash and jewellery. This incident occurred while the police were heavily occupied with VVIP security duties following a plane crash accident. The police are currently investigating the matter after receiving a complaint from Amitbhai Mohanlal Shah, who owns Maruti Jewellers in the complex. The incident took place on the night of June 14-15, 2024. Amitbhai was alerted to the break-in early Sunday morning by a local hair salon owner, Ashokbhai Nai, who reported that the locks of the shops were broken and one shop’s shutter was half-open.

Upon arriving at his shop, Amitbhai discovered that ₹15.49 lakh worth of gold and silver jewellery and ₹65,000 in cash had been stolen, amounting to a total loss of ₹16.14 lakh from his store alone. The CCTV footage from the jewellery store captured images of the theft, and the police have started an investigation based on this evidence. The busy Shahibag area was under strict surveillance due to the VVIP visits, which raises concerns about security measures in place.

Local police have expressed their commitment to resolving this case swiftly. They have also been reviewing nearby CCTV footage to track down the culprits. The police suspect that the thieves targeted the shops knowing that law enforcement was focused on ensuring the safety of high-profile visitors.

The incident has sparked a debate about the adequacy of police resources in handling multiple security demands at once. With VVIP visits often requiring extensive police presence, incidents like these raise questions about overall community safety. Residents and business owners are now calling for improved security measures and more attention to local crime prevention strategies.

In response to the theft, local authorities are urging shop owners to enhance their security systems, including the installation of better locks and alarm systems. The police are also planning community meetings to discuss safety concerns and encourage residents to report suspicious activities promptly.

As the investigation continues, the Shahibag community is on high alert, and many are hoping for a swift resolution to this unsettling incident. The police are optimistic that with the help of the CCTV footage and community cooperation, they will soon apprehend those responsible for this brazen theft.
