Thirteen Check Dams Approved for Pushpavati River in Mehsana

The state government of Gujarat has approved a project to build 13 check dams on the Pushpavati River in Mehsana. The estimated cost of the project is ₹76 crore. The announcement was made by the Minister of Water Resources and Supply, Kunvarji Bavaliya, who visited various sites to oversee the progress.

During his visit, Minister Bavaliya first inspected a water treatment plant in Dediyasan. He then looked at the pipeline work at Virta, connecting Navapura and Kantharavi, and also checked the work on the irrigation department’s check dams in Kharsada. He instructed officials to complete the work within the set deadlines.

The construction of the check dams will take place at several locations along the Pushpavati River. Among them, one dam at Moti Hirvani will be 40 meters long and cost ₹2.96 crore. Another dam at Machhawa will be 60 meters long with a budget of ₹4.44 crore, and a 70-meter dam at Upera will cost ₹5.18 crore.

Additionally, a 100-meter dam at Aithor will be built with an expenditure of ₹7.40 crore. Two more dams, each 80 meters long at Kharsada and Davada, will cost ₹5.92 crore each. There will also be a dam at Dhinjod, measuring 70 meters and costing ₹5.18 crore. In Meherwada, an 80-meter dam will cost ₹5.92 crore, while another 100-meter dam at Gambhu will have a budget of ₹7.40 crore. Lastly, a 70-meter dam at Takodi will also be constructed at a cost of ₹5.18 crore.

These check dams are part of the ‘Sujalam Sufalam’ scheme aimed at improving water management and irrigation in the region. The project is being carried out by the Nehar Division Number 3 of the Visnagar department. This initiative is expected to enhance the water supply for agriculture and drinking needs in Mehsana.

In another news from Mehsana, a farmer reported a theft incident involving ₹84,000. The farmer was approached by two men asking for directions. They deceived him and took away his money while he was distracted. The case highlights the need for increased awareness and safety measures among the local farmers.

As the check dam project unfolds, locals are hopeful about the positive impact on agriculture and the overall economy of Mehsana. The construction is expected to start soon, and officials are keen to ensure that all timelines are met for the benefit of the community.
