In Kapadvanj, three individuals have been arrested for stealing solar equipment, including inverters, worth ₹162,185. The local police, under the guidance of Police Inspector Janaksinh Devda, successfully apprehended the suspects while recovering the stolen goods. The incident occurred on July 3, 2025, when the victim, Mineshkumar Hargovindbhai Patel, reported the theft at the local police station. He stated that during the night, thieves had entered his shop at APMC Kapadvanj and stolen valuable solar equipment.
Following the report, the police registered a case and launched an immediate investigation. They began by checking CCTV footage, which revealed three suspicious individuals in an Eco vehicle. This led the officers to investigate people who had previously worked on solar installations at the victim’s location. They collected information on past workers and obtained their mobile call data records to trace their locations.
Using human intelligence and technical surveillance, the police identified and arrested the three suspects along with the original stolen goods. The vehicle used in the crime was also seized. The arrested suspects include Yogesh Chandubhai Parmar (27), Mahesh Ishwarbhai Parmar (26), and Kamlesh Himatbhai Parmar (24), all of whom are involved in solar installation and agriculture.
The police recovered several items from the suspects, including seven inverters from the “K Solar” company, valued at approximately ₹116,000, and other equipment worth a total of ₹362,185. The police team, including Inspector Janaksinh Devda and Sub-Inspector J.S. Champawat, worked diligently to ensure a quick resolution to the case. This incident highlights the ongoing challenges of theft related to valuable solar technology, which is becoming increasingly popular in Gujarat as part of the state’s push for renewable energy.
Solar power is a major focus for the Gujarat government, which aims to generate 30,000 megawatts of solar energy by 2022. The “Surya Gujarat” scheme encourages residents to install solar rooftop systems, providing subsidies to make it financially accessible. This plan aims to boost the use of solar energy while contributing to environmental sustainability.
As solar energy gains momentum, protecting solar installations from theft becomes crucial. The police encourage residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity around solar equipment installations. Community cooperation can help reduce incidents of theft and ensure that the benefits of solar energy can be enjoyed safely by all. The authorities continue to work on increasing awareness about the importance of solar energy and the measures needed to protect it. With the rising trend of solar installations, it is essential for both users and law enforcement to stay proactive against potential thefts.
