In a significant operation, the Special Operations Group (SOG) team of Patan arrested three Bangladeshi women who had entered India illegally. The women, identified as Tuskuran Khatoon (31), Polibegum (40), and Sam Sunnahar (35), were found to be working in Patan as labourers. The arrests were made based on a tip-off received by the police.
According to reports, the operation was conducted under the guidance of Patan District Police Superintendent V.K. Nayak. The SOG team, led by Police Inspector J.G. Solanki, was investigating families residing in Patan who had entered India from Bangladesh illegally. During their investigation, they received information about the three women who had come to Patan for work.
Upon questioning, it was revealed that the women did not possess valid passports or visas. Tuskuran Khatoon had entered India in January 2024 via the Sunaberi border, while Polibegum had entered five years ago through the Benapol border and had been living in Ahmedabad and Surat. Sam Sunnahar entered India on March 10, 2024, also through Benapol and was residing in Ahmedabad’s Gota area.
The women claimed they had come to Patan for work. The police have initiated legal action against them under the Foreigners Act of 1946. This operation is part of the state government’s campaign against illegal foreign nationals.
In another case, two other Bangladeshi women were arrested in Patan for illegally entering India and creating fake documents. These women, identified as Sultana (32) and Beauty Begum (37), had been living in Patan since 2022 under false identities. They managed to secure jobs in a local hotel and had even obtained Aadhaar cards using bogus documents. The police revealed that Sultana had been married twice in Gujarat while already having a family in Bangladesh.
Both women were found to have sent money back home to their families in Bangladesh. The police have seized their Bangladeshi passports and identity cards and are continuing their investigation.
This crackdown on illegal immigrants follows increased scrutiny after recent terrorist attacks. The Patan police have identified and called in 32 suspicious individuals for document verification in the town. The authorities are keen to ensure that illegal foreign nationals are brought to justice and that the integrity of the country’s borders is maintained.
The situation reflects a broader issue of illegal immigration in India, particularly from Bangladesh. Many individuals risk their lives to cross the border in search of better opportunities. However, the lack of legal documentation puts them at significant risk. The government is determined to tackle this challenge, as it poses serious security and social concerns.
As the investigation continues, the police are urging the public to report any suspicious activities. They stress that illegal immigration not only affects the economy but also poses a threat to national security. The SOG team’s swift action in Patan highlights the ongoing efforts to combat this issue head-on, ensuring that justice is served and the safety of the community is upheld.
