In a recent incident in Patan, Gujarat, police arrested three Bangladeshi women who had entered India illegally. The women, aged between 31 and 40, were found working in the area after receiving a tip-off about their presence. They had reportedly arrived in Ahmedabad from Howrah before making their way to Patan.
The police acted under the guidance of Patan’s Superintendent of Police, V.K. Nayak. The Special Operations Group (SOG) led by PI J.G. Solanki conducted the arrests after investigating families residing illegally in the region. Upon questioning, it was revealed that the three women — Tuskura Khatun, Polibegum, and Sam Sunnahar — did not possess any valid passports or visas.
Tuskura Khatun entered India via the Sunaberi border in January 2024. Polibegum crossed the Benapul border five years ago and had been living in Surat for the last year. Sam Sunnahar also entered through the Benapul border on March 10, 2024, and was residing in the Gota area of Ahmedabad.
According to police reports, the women arrived in Patan to find work. The authorities have initiated legal action against them under the Foreigners Act. This operation is part of a larger state government campaign targeting illegal foreign nationals.
The Indian government is currently on high alert regarding illegal immigrants from Bangladesh and Myanmar. The Union Home Ministry has instructed states and union territories to conduct thorough checks on these immigrants. They have given a month-long deadline to verify their documents. If the verification is not conducted within this timeframe, the individuals will be deported. This decision comes amid rising concerns over the number of illegal immigrants in India, especially following tensions between India and Pakistan.
Home Minister Amit Shah has emphasized that illegal immigration is a matter of national security. He has called for strict measures to be taken against those who enter the country without proper documentation. Recently, several operations in Ahmedabad and Surat led to the arrest of around 6,500 individuals suspected of being illegal immigrants.
The police continue to take action against illegal immigrants, as they believe that many Bangladeshi nationals are residing in Gujarat. The SOG in Patan will remain vigilant in their efforts to track down and apprehend individuals living in the country unlawfully. The situation highlights the ongoing challenge of managing immigration in India and ensuring the security of its borders.
As the government steps up its efforts against illegal immigration, it remains crucial for local authorities to cooperate and stay informed about the presence of undocumented individuals in their regions. This incident serves as a reminder of the importance of lawful immigration and the need for proper documentation when entering a foreign country.
