Tragic Death of Newlywed Woman Sparks Investigation in Gujarat

In a tragic incident in Rupakheda village, Gujarat, a newly married woman named Pooja (19) took her own life just 20 days after her wedding. The incident occurred on the night of May 31, 2025, and has raised serious questions about the circumstances surrounding her death. Pooja’s husband, Akshay, has been accused of subjecting her to both physical and mental abuse, leading to her tragic decision.

The couple got married on April 28, 2025, as per community customs. Initially, Pooja seemed to be living happily with her husband. However, their relationship quickly soured. Following the marriage, Akshay reportedly took Pooja to work in another village, where he would often return home late. When Pooja questioned him about his late arrivals, Akshay would respond with violence, telling her that he did not want her and that he was considering marrying another woman.

Pooja confided in her father about the abuse and her husband’s threats. After hearing this, her father advised her to stay with him until Akshay could prove he would change. In a bid to resolve the issues, local community leaders intervened, attempting to mediate between the couple. They counseled Akshay to stop the abuse and instructed Pooja to return home, hoping to mend the relationship.

On May 31, late at night, Pooja was found dead in her home. She had reportedly hanged herself with a scarf. This shocking event led her father, Dinesh, to file a complaint with the Sukhsar police station against Akshay, accusing him of pushing Pooja to take her own life due to ongoing abuse. The police arrested Akshay and have begun an investigation into the allegations.

This incident is not an isolated case. In recent months, there has been a worrying increase in domestic violence and suspicious deaths in the Sukhsar area. Authorities are under pressure to investigate thoroughly and ensure justice is served. Community leaders and activists are calling for stronger measures to protect women from domestic abuse.

Pooja’s death has sparked outrage in the local community and beyond, highlighting the urgent need for greater awareness and action against domestic violence in India. Many are calling for systemic changes to protect women and provide them with the support they need to escape abusive situations.

The ongoing investigation seeks to determine whether Pooja’s death was indeed a suicide or if foul play was involved. As the police continue their work, the community remains on edge, demanding justice for Pooja and other victims of domestic violence.

This tragic incident serves as a harsh reminder of the challenges many women face in India, and it emphasizes the need for societal change to prevent such occurrences in the future.
