In a heartbreaking incident in Gandhidham, two young men drowned while washing a bike in a pond. This tragic event occurred near the Pataliya Hanuman Temple in the Antarjal village of Gandhidham. The victims were identified as 20-year-old Sanjay Modi from Duchkavada village and 28-year-old Ishvar Modi from Vaghasan village, both in the Banaskantha district. They were related as brothers-in-law.
On the afternoon of the incident, Sanjay and Ishvar left home to wash their bike. However, when they did not return by late evening, Sanjay’s elder brother, Suresh, became worried. He went to the pond to check on them. There, he found only their bike and sandals, raising alarm bells. He immediately informed the police and rescue teams.
The Gandhidham Mamlatdar and other teams quickly started rescue operations. Sadly, at 1:10 AM, they found Sanjay’s body floating in the pond. The next day, at 11 AM, Ishvar’s body was also recovered.
Initial investigations revealed that Sanjay fell into the pond, and Ishvar tried to save him but also drowned. The police, along with the Mamlatdar’s team and local divers, searched the area throughout the night.
The community was deeply affected by this tragedy. The families of both young men are grieving, as they were the primary earners in their households. Local residents rushed to the scene upon hearing the news, and fire brigade teams were called in to assist with the search and rescue efforts. The loss of these two young lives has cast a pall over the entire locality, leaving their families and friends in deep sorrow.
This incident highlights the dangers of swimming in ponds and rivers, especially during the hot summer months when people often seek relief from the heat. Authorities are reminding everyone to exercise caution and avoid risky activities near water bodies.
