A tragic plane crash in Ahmedabad has claimed the lives of a couple from Palanpur, Rameshbhai Thakkar and his wife. Their bodies were brought back to Palanpur today. The couple was travelling on a flight from Ahmedabad to London to meet their son. Sadly, all passengers, except for one, lost their lives in the crash.
The plane, an Air India Boeing 787 Dreamliner, crashed just two minutes after takeoff. It was carrying 241 people, including crew members. The incident has shocked the nation, with condolences pouring in from Prime Minister and Home Minister, among others. International leaders, including US President Donald Trump, also expressed their sorrow.
The crash occurred in a medical college campus area, where the aircraft caught fire after impact. Reports indicate that 169 Indians, 53 British nationals, one Canadian, and seven Portuguese citizens were on board the ill-fated flight AI-171. Currently, only one passenger has survived and is receiving treatment.
Back in Palanpur, the community gathered to pay their respects to the Thakkars. At the residence on Lakshman Tekri, local leaders joined family members in offering floral tributes. District Collector Mihir Patel and local MLA Aniket Thakkar were present during the mourning ceremony. They thanked the residents of Palanpur and government officials for their support during this difficult time.
The DNA of Rameshbhai’s wife, Labhuben Thakkar, has not matched yet, so her body has not been released for burial. Family member Bhagwandas thanked everyone who stood by them in their time of grief.
In light of the tragedy, Tata Group has announced a compensation of one crore rupees for the families of the deceased. This gesture aims to provide some financial relief to those who have lost loved ones in this disastrous event.
