Tragic Plane Crash in Ahmedabad: 100 Bodies Recovered

A tragic incident occurred in Ahmedabad when an Air India Boeing 787 Dreamliner crashed shortly after takeoff. The flight took off from Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport at 1:38 PM and crashed just two minutes later, at 1:40 PM. The aircraft had 242 people on board, including 232 passengers, two pilots, and ten crew members. Among the passengers were 53 British nationals, seven Portuguese citizens, and one Canadian. Reports indicate that around 100 bodies have been recovered from the crash site.

The plane crashed near the airport wall and the air cargo office. Upon impact, heavy smoke was seen rising from the area, alarming nearby residents. Currently, over 100 bodies have been found, and it has been reported that more than 15 doctors residing in the building the plane hit have also been injured.

The Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner involved is a product of American company Boeing. Air India operates daily flights from Ahmedabad to London, and this aircraft can accommodate between 254 to 267 passengers in business and economy classes.

In response to the disaster, Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke with Union Civil Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia, who has been providing updates. The minister is travelling to Ahmedabad to oversee the situation firsthand. Union Home Minister Amit Shah is also en route to the city to assess the situation.

Amit Shah expressed deep sorrow over the unfortunate incident, stating that he cannot find words to describe the tragedy. He has dispatched a disaster response team to the crash site to assist in rescue efforts. Shah has communicated with Gujarat’s Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel, the state’s Home Minister Harsh Sanghavi, and the police commissioner of Ahmedabad to evaluate the circumstances.

Efforts for relief and rescue are underway at the crash site. Shah assured all necessary central assistance to the state authorities. Bhupendra Singh Chudasama, a former minister, has visited the residence of former Chief Minister Vijay Rupani, who was also a passenger on the flight.

This devastating accident has left many families in mourning and raised concerns about aviation safety in India. Initial reports suggest that the crash may have been caused by a technical fault, as the aircraft reportedly struck a tree during takeoff. The aftermath shows wreckage and bodies scattered at the scene, leaving a grim image that will be hard to forget.
