Recently, a young couple from Rajasthan jumped into the canal, tying their hands together. This heartbreaking incident has raised concerns in the local community.
The couple, Mukesh Malukaji Majirana (20) from Suja village and Sharda Bhagaji Majirana (21) from Hathla village, left their homes two days before their bodies were discovered. They were originally from the Sidwa district in Rajasthan. Their bodies were found near the Khanpur gate of the main Narmada Canal, and they were tied together.
Fire officer Viramji Rathod stated that the fire brigade was informed quickly and reached the scene to recover the bodies. He mentioned that in the past ten days, nine bodies have been recovered from the main canal near Tharad. Thankfully, a woman named Gayatribhen Bhati was rescued alive by the fire team.
The couple worked as farm labourers in Dodgam village, which is in Tharad taluka. Their tragic deaths have shocked the local community. After identification, their families were informed and the bodies were handed over to them.
In a separate incident, the body of a young man from Kansari village in Disa was found in the same canal. His body was discovered near the Dairy Bridge, and the fire brigade was called to the scene. An ID card found in his trousers helped identify him as Chandubhai Valmiki, a resident of Kansari village.
The rise in reported suicides in the area has drawn attention to mental health issues and the need for support. Local leaders and community members are calling for greater awareness and resources to help young people in distress. This recent series of events highlights a significant need for mental health services in rural areas where support systems may be limited.
The government and local organisations are urged to take action to prevent further tragedies. Community workshops and outreach programmes could provide essential support to those struggling with mental health issues. It is vital for families and friends to talk openly about mental health and seek help when needed.
The heartbreaking incidents at the Narmada Canal serve as a reminder of the importance of mental health awareness and support in every community. Local leaders are now focusing on creating a safer and more supportive environment for everyone.
As the community comes to terms with these tragic events, it is hoped that more resources will be made available to help those in need. Everyone deserves support and understanding, especially during difficult times. It is crucial to address these issues to prevent future tragedies and to support our youth in leading healthy and fulfilling lives.
