The Institute of Rural Management Anand (IRMA) recently celebrated the 44th convocation ceremony of Tri Bhuwan Cooperative University. The event took place in the presence of Governor Acharya Devvrat, who was the chief guest. During the ceremony, the governor awarded gold medals to outstanding students and conferred degrees upon 329 postgraduate students. The governor emphasized the vision of IRMA’s founder, Dr. Verghese Kurien, and other notable figures like Tribhuvandas Patel and Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel. He highlighted their commitment to uplifting rural farmers and communities, aiming to bring urban amenities and development to rural areas. This vision reflects the spirit of equality in India, he noted.
In his speech, Governor Devvrat congratulated all degree holders, especially gold medalists. He acknowledged the significant contributions of teachers in shaping students’ lives and praised parents who sacrifice their dreams for their children’s education. The governor referenced the Taittiriya Upanishad, urging students to promote knowledge through truth, righteousness, and education. He stressed that truth dispels darkness and leads to a life free from fear and stress. He encouraged students to use their knowledge for personal growth and the welfare of society and humanity.
The governor also pointed out that human life is not solely about fulfilling basic needs like food, clothing, and shelter. Instead, it is characterized by tolerance, compassion, and selflessness. A true human is one who empathizes with the joys and sorrows of others. Education should inspire humanity and morality.
Governor Devvrat praised IRMA and the National Dairy Development Board (NDDB) for their contributions to rural development. He commended the achievement of doubling dairy production through sex-sorted semen technology, which will enhance the dairy sector and improve the economic well-being of farmers and livestock owners. He noted that the cooperative movement, originating from Gujarat, has become a global concept, significantly strengthening the rural sector. This work aligns with the vision of a developed India by 2047.
During the ceremony, Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel spoke about the government’s commitment to ensuring that no marginalized individual faces difficulties and that everyone is included in the mainstream. He shared that various welfare schemes have reached households, empowering people economically. The Chief Minister urged quality in development works and highlighted Gujarat’s leading role in the country’s financial management.
The convocation ceremony also featured a presentation by Dr. Umakant Das, the director of IRMA, who outlined various educational programs and student placements. The event was inaugurated by Padma Shri Dr. J.M. Vyas, the Chancellor of Tri Bhuwan Cooperative University. The ceremony was attended by several dignitaries, including the state’s cooperation minister and NDDB officials, along with a large number of IRMA students.
