Rupani was born on August 2, 1956, in Rangoon, Burma. His family moved to India in 1960. He graduated from Dharmendrasinh College and later studied law at Saurashtra University. He was an active member of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and worked his way up through the ranks to become Chief Minister in 2016.

Before his role as Chief Minister, he served in various capacities, including as a member of the Rajkot Municipal Corporation. His commitment to public service was evident throughout his career, and he faced many challenges with resilience.
