Two Arrested for Job Fraud in Gujarat

In a recent incident in Anand district, Gujarat, two men were arrested for cheating people under the pretext of providing jobs in the State Transport (ST) department. The main accused, Nilesh Rohit, had graduated in Economics and was previously working part-time fitting GPS in buses for the ST department. Due to financial difficulties, he resorted to fraud to support his family, including his son and wife who needed medical treatment.

Nilesh began his scam by promising individuals jobs in the ST department, using fake letterheads and seals to convince them. He teamed up with his accomplice, Ashish Christian, to execute this scheme. The GIDC police in Vatva arrested both after a complaint was filed by a young man from Khokhra, who had been defrauded of ₹97,000.

The victim was lured with the promise of a senior clerk position in the ST department. Nilesh and Ashish convinced him to pay the amount and provided him with a fake appointment letter. When the victim checked the authenticity of the letter, he discovered it was a forgery.

Police investigations revealed that Nilesh and Ashish were in contact while visiting Karnataka. They discussed the job scam, with Nilesh claiming he could get anyone a job in the ST department for a price. This led to Ashish approaching the victim while working on CCTV installations for a private company, where the conversation about job opportunities took place.

After receiving the money, Nilesh and Ashish provided a forged appointment letter with a fake signature and seal. However, the victim’s suspicion grew when he discovered inconsistencies in the letter. He reported the fraud to the Vatva GIDC police station.

During questioning, police found out that Nilesh had previously worked part-time in the ST department and knew how recruitment processes worked. His knowledge helped him manipulate victims effectively. Meanwhile, Ashish, who had also done some work for the ST department, played a crucial role in targeting potential victims.

The police recovered tools used for the fraud, including stamps, a printer, and mobile phones from the accused. Investigations revealed that Nilesh needed money for his son’s surgery, which cost ₹4.5 lakh. Similarly, Ashish required funds for his mother and wife’s medical treatments, which drove them to commit these crimes.

The GIDC police have since taken both men into custody for further questioning. They are investigating the possibility of other victims who may have fallen for the scam. The police have also noted that this is not an isolated case, as similar frauds have been reported in the past, where individuals have promised government jobs in exchange for money.

This incident highlights the importance of verifying job offers and being cautious of scams that target job seekers. Authorities encourage anyone who suspects they have been a victim of such fraud to come forward and report it to the police.
