In Nadiad, Gujarat, two individuals have been arrested for carrying out cyber attacks on government websites during the India-Pakistan conflict. The arrested are 18-year-old Jasim Shah Nawaz Ansari and a minor, both of whom allegedly attempted to bring down over 50 websites using a technique known as DDoS (Distributed Denial of Service).
The incident occurred amid heightened tensions between India and Pakistan, prompting close scrutiny of social media and online activities. The duo created a Telegram group named ‘Anonsec’, where they shared screenshots of their attacks and posted provocative content against India.
On May 19, the Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) received intelligence about Jasim and the minor. Following their arrest, police seized their mobile phones for further investigation. Reports indicate that these individuals targeted various critical sectors, including defense, finance, and urban development, aiming to disrupt national security and the economy.
DDoS attacks flood a targeted server with traffic from multiple sources, rendering it unavailable to legitimate users. This type of cyber assault can lead to significant disruption of online services and financial losses.
Court proceedings have revealed that Jasim Ansari was presented before a local court, which granted a five-day remand for further questioning. Investigators are now looking into whether there are other individuals involved in these cyber terror activities and if Jasim has connections with any terrorist groups.
The attacks occurred between April and May, with the team claiming responsibility for targeting government websites, including those of the Indian and various state governments. They posted messages stating their intent to escalate cyber attacks in response to government operations against terrorism.
The Gujarat ATS is continuing its investigation to uncover the full extent of this cyber threat, which poses a significant risk to national security. This development highlights the ongoing challenges faced by authorities in combatting cyber terrorism in an increasingly digital world.
