Two Men Steal Jewellery Worth ₹50,000 from a Widow in Vadodara

A shocking incident occurred in Vadodara, Gujarat, where two men absconded with ₹50,000 worth of jewellery from a widow. The victim, Madhuben Bachubhai Chavda, a resident of Dumad, went to the Bank of Baroda in Chhani to update her pension passbook. The two men approached her, claiming to be bank officials. They told her that her late husband had deposited ₹9 lakh in the bank and that she would receive ₹2.5 lakh from it. They asked her to fill out a form and needed her photograph to process the transaction.

Under the pretense of helping her, they took her to a nearby spot to take the photo. While there, they convinced her to take off her jewellery, saying it was necessary for the photo. After taking the photo, they told her to wait while they went to get the necessary signatures from the bank. However, they never returned.

Madhuben was left stunned as they took away her gold jewellery, valued at ₹50,000. When she realised she had been tricked, she filed a complaint at the Chhani police station against the two men. The police are currently investigating the case and have urged the public to be cautious of such scams.

Madhuben, who now receives a monthly pension of ₹10,000 after her husband’s demise, was targeted due to her vulnerable situation. This incident highlights the need for increased awareness about scams, especially targeting the elderly and widows. The police have advised citizens to verify the identity of anyone claiming to be a bank official before sharing personal information or valuables.

As investigations continue, the police are searching for the two men, who are still at large. They are asking anyone with information about the suspects to come forward. Such incidents not only cause financial loss but also emotional distress to victims and their families. The community is urged to support victims of such crimes and report suspicious activities to the authorities promptly.
