In Bharuch, the local crime branch (LCB) has arrested two women involved in a chain snatching incident. They were caught with a gold chain and a moped worth ₹1.83 lakh. Police are also on the lookout for three other wanted individuals connected to the crime.
The incident occurred on May 19, when two unidentified men snatched a gold chain from a woman’s neck near the Harihar complex on Jadeshwar Road. The victim filed a complaint at the C Division police station. Following the complaint, LCB’s inspector Manish Valana led the investigation to catch the suspects.
CCTV footage revealed the moped’s registration number, GJ 16 CC 2021, which helped the police trace it back to Salman Gulam Rasool Sheikh, a resident of the Fatatalav area in Bharuch. Along with him, Mohsin Rafiq Ansari from Juhapura, Ahmedabad, and Faizan, also known as Pandit, were involved in the crime. After the robbery, they reportedly handed the stolen chain to Salman’s mother and wife before fleeing the scene.
The police arrested Salman’s mother, Fatema, and his wife, Tanveer, for questioning. During the interrogation, they confessed to the crime. It was revealed that Salman frequently engages in thefts and leaves stolen items at home for his family to sell.
The LCB has filed charges against both women under the Indian Penal Code. The main suspect, Salman Gulam Rasool Sheikh, along with his accomplices Mohsin Rafiq Ansari and Faizan, are still at large, and efforts are ongoing to apprehend them.
Local residents are relieved by the swift action taken by the police, which has led to the arrest of the suspects within hours of the crime. This incident highlights the ongoing issue of chain snatching in urban areas and the need for increased vigilance among the public. Residents are encouraged to report any suspicious activities to the police promptly.
Authorities are reinforcing their commitment to reducing such crimes and ensuring the safety of citizens. They advise the public to be cautious and aware of their surroundings, especially when wearing valuable items. Community awareness and cooperation can significantly help in curbing such criminal activities in the future.
