The monsoon season brings heavy rains and storms, which can cause faults in electricity lines. This leads to short circuits. Many accidents happen because of a lack of awareness about electricity safety among people. To address this issue, UGVCL (Uttar Gujarat Vij Company Limited) is celebrating Electricity Safety Week. The event aims to raise awareness about electrical safety. The celebration is taking place from June 1 to June 7, 2025.
As part of this initiative, the Bhabhar branch of UGVCL organised a rally to educate local residents about electricity safety. The rally started from the UGVCL office in Bhabhar. Officials and staff members, including Deputy Engineer J.S. Chaudhary and Junior Engineer R.A. Gohil, participated in the event. They carried banners that conveyed important safety messages.
Some of the key messages on the banners included: ‘Ensure proper installation of electrical wiring at home’, ‘Keep children away from electric sources and switches’, ‘Do not touch electrical devices or switches with wet hands’, and ‘Never tie animals to poles or wires’.
The rally moved through various streets in Bhabhar, including Khadiya Street, Highway Road, and Vav Road, reaching Madhav City. The purpose of the rally was to spread awareness about the dangers of electrical hazards and the importance of safety measures.
In addition to the rally, UGVCL conducted inspections to detect electricity theft in Bhabhar. During these checks, officials found 26 illegal connections. This led to a crackdown on electricity theft, with fines totalling INR 4.65 lakh imposed on the offenders. The inspections were part of a larger effort to ensure that residents are using electricity responsibly and legally.
UGVCL has been proactive in promoting electricity safety and reducing accidents. The company serves over 3.8 million consumers in various categories, including residential, industrial, agricultural, and waterworks. It has received numerous awards for its efforts in improving electricity distribution and safety.
With ongoing initiatives like Electricity Safety Week, UGVCL aims to create a safer environment for all its consumers. By educating the public and enforcing regulations, the company hopes to reduce accidents and increase awareness about the importance of electricity safety during the monsoon season and beyond.
