Gujarat is experiencing a heatwave, with temperatures soaring above 40 degrees Celsius. The situation has become unbearable for many residents. However, there is a glimmer of hope as weather experts predict unseasonal rain in the coming days. The pre-monsoon activity is expected to bring brief showers across various regions in the state, providing partial relief from the heat.
This unusual weather comes after a period of scorching temperatures, where the maximum temperature recently reached 40.3 degrees Celsius in Disa. The minimum was recorded at 29 degrees Celsius, with humidity levels at 62%. Winds were blowing at a speed of 9 km/h.
Weather systems from the Arabian Sea and parts of Rajasthan are now active, which may lead to changes in the weather across the state. The meteorological department has forecast scattered showers from May 22 to May 27, 2025. Residents are advised to take precautions to protect their crops from potential rain damage.
In Banaskantha, where the heat has been particularly intense, the forecast of rain brings some relief. Local farmers are urged to safeguard their grains in anticipation of the rain.
In recent days, various areas in Gujarat have already begun to see some rain. Reports indicate that regions like Bharuch have received significant rainfall. On Wednesday, heavy clouds led to rain in Bharuch early in the morning, contributing to nearly an inch of rainfall. This has caused waterlogging in places like the Umvada railway underbridge.
Moreover, in the last 24 hours, 31 talukas in Gujarat have recorded rainfall, with Visavdar in Junagadh receiving the highest at 2.44 inches in just two hours. Other areas, including Rajkot and Surat, have also experienced rain.
However, there is concern among farmers regarding a potential cyclone formed in the Arabian Sea, which could lead to heavy rainfall in the region. The Indian Meteorological Department continues to monitor the situation, as the system has not yet developed into a depression.
As Gujarat braces for these changes in weather, the combination of heat and rain may create a unique scenario for the state’s agriculture. While the heat has been challenging, the anticipated rain could provide much-needed moisture for the soil and crops. Residents are hopeful that the rain will bring a break from the sweltering heat, making way for a more pleasant environment as the monsoon season approaches.
