Vadodara, a city in Gujarat, is taking steps to improve its river systems. The Municipal Commissioner, Arun Mahesh Babu, recently visited the ongoing Vishwamitri Revival Project. This project aims to widen and deepen the Vishwamitri River, which runs through the heart of the city. Last year’s heavy rains caused significant flooding, affecting many residents. In response, the state government ordered improvements to the river.
The project has a tight deadline. Officials aim to finish the work within 100 days. Commissioner Babu is closely monitoring the progress. During his visit, he spoke with the project team and provided necessary instructions.
The Vishwamitri River is about 24.7 kilometers long. The current work includes dredging, reshaping, and modifying the riverbed. The goal is to complete these tasks by June 15. The local government plans to prevent future flooding by adding 135,000 square meters of embankments along the river.
As of now, 90% of the work is finished. The project has removed about 1.51 million cubic meters of soil. The remaining tasks involve preparing the riverbed and ensuring it can handle future rainfall without overflowing. Additionally, the National Highway Authority of India and the Bullet Train Authority are also contributing to related work along the river.
The project is crucial for Vadodara. It aims to enhance the city’s drainage system and protect residents from flooding. The local government hopes that the revived river will improve the environment and quality of life for citizens. Officials are optimistic about completing the project on time, ensuring a safer and more reliable river system for all.
