A shocking video has gone viral on social media, exposing serious allegations against officials and security personnel of the mining department in Godhra, Panchmahal district. The video shows department employees allegedly stopping tractor drivers to demand bribes. If the drivers refuse to pay, they are threatened with violence. In the video, a man claiming to be a security guard places a large stick at the back of a vehicle, surprisingly driving it himself despite being a security guard. It is also alleged that mining department employees use private vehicles with tinted windows. A concerned citizen claims the misuse of government vehicles, which are driven by security guards.
Following the video’s release, local citizens expressed strong anger and distrust towards the mining department. The accusations suggest that officials are unlawfully collecting money from tractor drivers instead of conducting proper legal procedures.
In a recent crackdown, the Godhra sub-divisional officer and the district mining department jointly conducted checks on the 61 Patiya road in Godhra. During this operation, two dumpers carrying blacktrap were seized, amounting to ₹60 lakh in illegal goods. Mining mafias in Panchmahal have reportedly been running rampant, illegally stealing and transporting sand, soil, and white stones, causing significant losses to the government treasury.
As part of the ongoing efforts to combat illegal mining, the joint team conducted checks based on tips received. They stopped a tractor loaded with sand and demanded to see its permit, which the driver could not provide. This led to the seizure of the tractor and a fine of ₹5 lakh imposed on the driver.
The mining department’s performance has come under scrutiny, especially after the recent allegations of corruption and misuse of authority. Citizens are calling for a full investigation to ensure the integrity of the department and to hold those involved accountable.
