The Manekpura-Muna road, connecting the villages of Manekpura and Muna in the Disa taluka of Gujarat, has been in a state of disrepair for the last 12 years. This 3-kilometre road is crucial for over 700 villagers and more than 150 students who face daily hardships due to its poor condition. According to reports, the last time this road received any metal surfacing was in 2012. Since then, there has been no repair or maintenance. For the residents of Manekpura, this road serves as the main route to Muna village and other surrounding areas. Every morning, students heading to school and college, as well as working individuals, struggle with the bad road conditions. The situation worsens during the monsoon season when small vehicles and pedestrians find it difficult to pass through.
The pothole-ridden road poses a risk of accidents as well. Local residents claim that the area falls under the Kankrej Assembly and Patan Parliamentary constituencies. They argue that political boundaries have left their village deprived of developmental attention. The residents of Manekpura and Muna have a unified demand for the immediate renovation of this road to relieve their daily hardships.
Villagers have appealed to their local MLA and MP for urgent action and funding for the road’s construction. They have warned that if work does not commence soon, they will resort to intense protests.
The poor condition of the Manekpura-Muna road is not an isolated issue. Residents in other parts of Gujarat have faced similar problems with roads and infrastructure. Recently, a bridge in Vadodara collapsed, raising concerns about the quality of bridges and overpasses across the state.
