Vote Counting in Patan District Under Tight Police Security

On June 25, 2023, vote counting will take place in Patan district, Gujarat, in a well-guarded environment. The counting will be conducted for each taluka in the district. More than 1,365 staff members will be present to oversee the counting process. Each taluka will have designated counting centres. For Patan taluka, the counting will be at BBA Bhavan, Patan. In Saraswati taluka, it will be held at Kendriya Vidyalaya, Choramarpura. Siddhpur taluka will host counting at the Government Homeopathic College, Dethli. The counting for Chanasma taluka will take place at K.V. Patel ITI, Rupapur. Harij taluka’s counting will be at the Model School, Harij. In Sami taluka, the Government Vinayak and Commerce College will be the venue. For Shankeshwar taluka, the counting will occur at the Women ITI College, Shankeshwar. Radhanpur taluka will have counting at the Model School, Radhanpur Bhoytali. Finally, Santalkpur taluka will conduct counting at PM Gokalani U. M. School, Varahi. The entire counting process will have strict police arrangements to ensure safety and security.

Patan district is located in the northern part of Gujarat, a state in western India. It was established on October 1, 2000. The district headquarters is in the historic city of Patan. Initially, Patan district was formed by merging parts of Mehsana district and Banaskantha district, including talukas like Sami, Harij, Chanasma, Siddhpur, and Patan. At its inception, the district had seven talukas. On September 23, 2012, the then Chief Minister Narendra Modi announced three new talukas, which included Shankeshwar and Saraswati in Patan district. This led to the creation of two new talukas by dividing Patan and Sami, resulting in the formation of Shankeshwar and Saraswati.

According to the 2011 census, Patan district has a population of 1,343,734 people. This is similar in size to the population of the country of Swaziland or the state of Maine in the USA. In terms of rank, Patan district stands 359th among 640 districts in India. The population density is 234 inhabitants per square kilometre. The population growth rate from 2001 to 2011 was 13.53%. Patan has a literacy rate of 73.74%. In 2001, 20.16% of the district’s population lived in urban areas.

Patan district has a total of 10 talukas, 464 gram panchayats, and 524 villages. The National Informatics Centre and the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, Government of India, have developed and hosted updates regarding the district. This information is crucial for ensuring smooth governance and transparency in the electoral process. The upcoming vote counting is a significant event for the local governance system, as it will determine the representatives for the gram panchayats in the district. With the presence of strict police security, officials aim to conduct the vote counting without any disturbances, ensuring a fair process for all voters.
