A review meeting on water conservation was held in Patan district, led by Cabinet Minister Balvantsinh Rajput. The meeting took place at the Collector’s Office as part of the ‘Catch the Rain’ campaign. The Minister urged for the swift completion of approved works under the Atal Bhujal Yojana. He emphasised the importance of raising the water table in the district. To achieve this, he called for public participation and financial support from donors.
During the meeting, the Minister discussed strategies for rainwater harvesting. He highlighted the need for planning to store rainwater and recharge it into the ground. The aim is to improve the groundwater level in Patan. The Minister stated that improving water conditions in the district requires cooperation from various stakeholders. These include MPs, MLAs, the administration, social and educational organisations, dairy cooperatives, village panchayats, municipalities, and donors.
The discussion also included how schools, colleges, and government offices could contribute to water conservation efforts. The minister urged local leaders to participate actively in these initiatives.
Plans for water conservation in the district include digging ten thousand pits, recharging defunct borewells, filling old wells with water, deepening ponds, and creating hollows in fields. These measures are aimed at improving the water situation in Patan.
Present at the meeting were District Panchayat President Hetalben Thakor, MLA Lavingji Thakor, Dr Kirit Patel, Collector Tushar Bhatt, and District Development Officer C.L. Patel. Numerous taluka panchayat leaders and officials also attended the meeting.
This review meeting marks a significant step towards enhancing water conservation efforts in Patan. The collaborative approach among various sectors is expected to yield positive results for the water situation in the district.
