Heavy rains in the upper regions have led to a significant increase in water levels at the Panam Dam in Panchmahal, Gujarat. The water level reached 125.05 meters, prompting the water resources department to open one gate of the dam by four feet. As a result, 3,747 cubic meters of water was released into the Panam River. This release has created a scenic view as the river flows rapidly on both sides.
The continuous rain in the upper areas is expected to maintain this water influx. Officials have indicated that further releases may occur in stages. For local residents and farmers, this water can be a blessing. However, authorities have urged caution for those living near the riverbanks.
The Panam Dam is crucial for the Panchmahal district. It serves as a lifeline, providing water for irrigation and drinking purposes. With rainfall recorded at 11 inches, the overall average rainfall for the season stands at 31.62 percent. This year’s monsoon has started with a splash, benefiting many.
The release of water from the dam has also led to alerts for nearly 38 villages along the riverbanks. People are being advised to stay away from the river to ensure their safety. This includes residents of four villages in Shehra taluka, 18 in Lunawada, one in Khanpur, and four in Santrampur.
Farmers are particularly pleased with the water release as it promises to enhance irrigation in their fields. The dam’s water level management is a priority for the authorities to prevent any flooding in nearby areas. The local community has been informed about the situation, and preparations are in place to manage any potential impact.
The Panam Dam and the nearby Hadaf Dam have both seen rising water levels due to the constant rainfall. As a precaution, water from Hadaf Dam was also released, amounting to 1,250 cubic meters. Residents in low-lying areas are advised to remain vigilant as the authorities continue to monitor the situation closely.
Given the recent weather patterns, it is essential for local residents to heed the warnings and stay updated on the water level changes. The government is actively working to ensure the safety of all citizens while maximizing the benefits of the rainfall for agriculture.
In summary, while the rains have brought much-needed relief to farmers, it is crucial for everyone living near rivers to stay informed and cautious. The Panam Dam’s management demonstrates the importance of balancing natural resources with community safety.
