Weather Watch Group Meeting Held in Gandhinagar Amid Heavy Rain Forecast

A meeting of the Weather Watch Group was held at the State Emergency Operation Center (SEOC) in Gandhinagar under the chairmanship of the Relief Commissioner. The purpose was to review the monsoon situation and the preparedness of various departments in the state. Officers from the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) provided updates on the rainfall, indicating that heavy rain has been falling across the state in recent days. They forecast medium to heavy rainfall in various areas for the upcoming week. During the meeting, all departments were instructed to stay alert and address any potential risks related to the weather conditions.

The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) officials shared that 34 teams from both NDRF and State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) are deployed at the district level to handle any emergencies arising from heavy rain. Additionally, two teams are on standby to assist where needed. The Irrigation Department officials reported on the water storage situation across the state’s reservoirs. Out of 206 reservoirs, 15 are on high alert, 12 are on alert, and 11 are under warning.

The Gujarat State Road Transport Corporation (GSRTC) informed that bus routes in Surat and Bharuch districts have been affected due to the rainfall, and alternative routes have been initiated to ensure transportation continues safely. Various departments including CWC (Central Water Commission), Health, Energy, and ISRO were represented at the meeting, demonstrating a coordinated effort to manage the situation effectively.

As the monsoon progresses, the importance of preparedness cannot be overstated. The state government is focused on minimizing risks and ensuring the safety of its citizens. With the collaborative approach of various departments, the aim is to respond quickly and effectively to any challenges posed by the weather. This meeting marks a proactive step towards ensuring that the state is ready to face the heavy rains forecasted in the coming week, thereby safeguarding the lives and properties of the people of Gujarat.
