In Mehsana, a woman was robbed of her gold necklace while riding in an auto-rickshaw. The incident happened at Modhera Chowkdi when 50-year-old Rekhaben Prajapati was waiting to meet her younger brother. She was planning to return home in the evening. Rekhaben boarded a yellow auto-rickshaw that had three women sitting in the back and two men in the front with the driver. After travelling a short distance, the driver pretended to have trouble driving and asked one of the men to sit in the back seat. The men and women started chatting with Rekhaben. At Nagalpur Chowkdi, the driver claimed he needed to let more passengers in and dropped Rekhaben off. It was only after she got out that she realised her gold necklace, weighing one and a half tolas, was missing. She immediately reported the theft at the Mehsana B-Division police station. A complaint has been filed against the rickshaw driver, three women, and two men involved in the theft, with the necklace valued at ₹1.35 lakh. The police have started reviewing CCTV footage to investigate the case further. This incident highlights the dangers of public transport and the need for increased safety measures for passengers. Local authorities are urging commuters to be vigilant when using auto-rickshaws and to report any suspicious behaviour. Theft in public transport is a growing concern, and passengers are advised to keep their valuables secure and remain alert.
