Bharuch Underpass Issues: Heavy Rain Causes Flooding

Bharuch Underpass Issues: Heavy Rain Causes Flooding

In Bharuch district of Gujarat, the underpass built for a broad gauge railway line has become a major problem for locals. This underpass was created about 12 years ago when the railway line was changed from narrow to broad gauge. However, the planning did not consider local geography. As a result, when it rains, water accumulates in these underpasses, causing severe flooding. Residents have reported that there is not a single underpass along the route from Ankleshwar to Rajpipla that does not flood during the rains. In some areas, the water can reach knee-deep levels, making it difficult for people and vehicles to pass.

This situation has made commuting a headache for many. For example, a driver of a luxury mini bus, transporting company staff, had to navigate through knee-deep water to reach the workplace on time. Such conditions raise concerns about safety, as any mishap could lead to serious accidents. The local residents are frustrated because the roads leading to the underpasses are also in poor condition, making driving very difficult.

Many of the CC roads in the villages have not seen any maintenance from the railway department in all these years. Projects started by the railway often remain unfinished for years, leaving the local population to deal with these ongoing issues. Locals have been enduring these problems for over a decade, and they demand a proper drainage system to manage the rainwater effectively.

The railway department has been asked to take action. Residents hope for a resolution to their struggles and better infrastructure to prevent further flooding. With the monsoon season approaching, the urgency for improvement grows.

In summary, the underpass in Bharuch is a clear example of how infrastructure planning can impact daily life. Without proper analysis and execution, local communities suffer. The railway department must act swiftly to address these flooding issues and ensure safe passage for all.
