In Banaskantha district, the counting of votes for gram panchayats began early in the morning amidst great excitement. Crowds of villagers gathered at 14 taluka stations to witness the results. A total of 794 voting booths were set up for the elections, which included 322 gram panchayats from 14 talukas. Voters were eager to cast their ballots for the positions of sarpanch (village head) and ward members. The turnout was impressive, with 500,401 out of 599,279 voters participating, resulting in an overall voting percentage of 83.50%. In the by-elections for 19 gram panchayats, 29,199 out of 43,012 voters cast their votes, achieving a turnout of 63.24%.
The high voter turnout led to a sense of mystery surrounding the results, drawing everyone’s attention to the counting process. The counting was conducted under tight police security, ensuring order amidst the excited crowds. The process began with postal votes, followed by votes for wards, and finally for the sarpanch.
