The Gujarat government, led by Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel, is committed to the state’s economic and infrastructural development. In line with this goal, the state is expanding its road network with new projects. Recently, the government announced an ambitious plan to construct two new expressways in Gujarat. The detailed project report (DPR) process for these expressways has already begun.
These expressways will follow a greenfield route, meaning they will not pass through any towns or cities, ensuring smooth travel for commuters. The two new expressways include the Ahmedabad-Dwarka-Somnath-Porbandar expressway and the Disa-Pipavav Namo Shakti expressway. The Disa-Pipavav expressway, which is 430 kilometers long, is estimated to cost around ₹39,120 crores. Meanwhile, the Ahmedabad-Dwarka-Somnath-Porbandar expressway will stretch 680 kilometers with a budget of ₹57,120 crores.
By avoiding populated areas, these expressways aim to make travel easier, faster, and safer for everyone. They are expected to reduce traffic congestion on existing highways, which will improve travel times significantly. Furthermore, these projects are likely to boost economic and religious tourism in the state. The new expressways will enhance Gujarat’s overall infrastructural development, leading to better connectivity across the region.
The Gujarat State Road Development Corporation (GSRDC) has requested proposals from consultants for the DPR of these expressways. Several aspects are being considered for the expressway’s development, including road design, structural design, service road layout, environmental and social assessments, safety measures, land acquisition for the roads, and options for the compensation process. The state government aims to complete the DPR process within a year, after which tenders will be issued for construction.
The design of these expressways ensures that any resident in the state will be within 100 kilometers of highway connectivity. This development is part of Gujarat’s broader strategy to improve its transportation infrastructure and facilitate trade and travel across the state. With investments pouring in and a focus on sustainable growth, the new expressways represent a significant step toward modernising Gujarat’s road network.
In addition to the expressways, the government is also focusing on the Dholera Smart City project, which aims to attract international businesses and create a modern industrial hub. Dholera is being developed as a greenfield industrial smart city, which is expected to create numerous job opportunities. The government is making efforts to ensure that the infrastructure supports the demands of new industries, including semiconductor manufacturing and electronics.
With these developments, Gujarat is positioning itself as a leader in India’s industrial landscape. The new expressways and smart city projects are crucial for driving economic growth and improving the quality of life for residents. As these projects progress, they will not only enhance connectivity but also stimulate investments, promote tourism, and ultimately contribute to the state’s overall development.
