Surat, Gujarat, has experienced intense rainfall leading to significant flooding on Monday. The rain began early in the morning, and between 6 AM and 12 PM, more than 7 inches of rain fell within just six hours. As a result, many areas in the city and surrounding districts are now inundated with water, disrupting daily life.
In addition to Surat city, rainfall has been recorded in various regions such as Kamrej, Mandvi, Mangrol, Palsana, Chorasi, Umarpada, Bardoli, and Olpad. The intense rain has caused water accumulation especially in low-lying areas. For instance, bank employees near Lal Darwaja were trapped in the rising waters. A rescue operation by the fire department successfully evacuated 12 employees to safety.
Due to the severe weather, schools in the area have declared a holiday. Areas like Udhna Darwaja, Begampura, and Sahara Darwaja have also reported significant waterlogging. The Rander-Singanpor causeway has been closed to traffic.
In Kamrej, 1.81 inches of rain was recorded, while Talala saw 1.34 inches and Vyar recorded 1.1 inches. Other areas like Vapim, Maliyahat, and Dediya also reported varying amounts of rainfall, leading to widespread disruption. The municipal corporation has initiated efforts to manage the situation, opening up previously blocked roads as water levels recede.
The state of emergency has been declared, and the administration is closely monitoring the situation to ensure public safety. The weather department has indicated that heavy rainfall will continue in the coming days, prompting citizens to remain alert and exercise caution. This unexpected deluge has not only affected transportation but has also caused damage to local businesses, leaving many in distress.
Residents are advised to stay indoors and avoid unnecessary travel until conditions improve. The local government is working tirelessly to mitigate the effects of the flooding and restore normalcy as soon as possible. With the forecast indicating more rain ahead, the people of Surat must stay vigilant and prepared for further challenges.
