Gandhinagar is on high alert as heavy rainfall affects the state, especially in Saurashtra and South Gujarat. Kunvarji Bavaliya, the Minister of Water Resources, visited the Flood Control Cell located at the State Water Data Center today. He met with senior officials to discuss necessary precautions. The meeting was crucial due to the severe weather conditions. During the meeting, Minister Bavaliya emphasized the importance of issuing alerts when heavy rainfall occurs upstream or locally. He stated that water inflow in local reservoirs rises during such weather. Therefore, it is essential to notify relevant authorities, including district collectors and administrative bodies, to ensure timely local warnings. This can help prevent loss of life and property. The minister highlighted the implementation of the Disaster Management Plan 2025, which aims to coordinate various departments effectively. To address the monsoon challenges, the Flood Control Cell operates from June 1 to October 1 each year. During this period, the state government maintains 12 hotlines and 14 satellite phones for 24/7 communication in emergencies. This ensures quick access to vital information from districts. The Reservoir Data Management System provides updated statistics about rainfall and reservoir conditions at the data center. Minister Bavaliya also communicated with local officials in Botad, Bhavnagar, and Rajkot regarding rainfall and reservoir details, giving necessary instructions. A presentation showcasing the operations of the Flood Control Cell was shown during the visit. Key officials, including M.D. Patel, the Chief Secretary of the Water Resources Department, and B.H. Joshi, the Superintendent Engineer, were present at the meeting. The government is taking all necessary steps to ensure safety during the heavy rainfall season. Residents are advised to stay informed about the weather updates and follow safety guidelines issued by local authorities.
